The Glider 'fin-plate' support is one of the more contemporary staircases within the Signature range - from the underside more of the metal structure is visible. This modern staircase structure is filled, sanded and primed ready to take the finish paint colour by the client. The solid timber steps are shaped to reduce the openness of the step to meet building regulations.
Made to client specifications this box support Glider modern stairs has a number of interesting features. The openness of the steps along with the horizontal running stainless steel balustrades makes this contemporary staircase an instant eye-catching feature in the hall. The balustrade square uprights are laser cut in our manufacturing facility and enable us to achieve a neater, cleaner finish than is possible with the traditional manufacturing processes.
With the Glider modern staircase the ‘fin-plate' support style differs from the box in how the step is supported. The wider fin-plate support gives this option a more contemporary feel as more of the modern staircase design is exposed. All mild steel structures are filed, sanded and primed ready for finish painting colour by the client enabling the complete integration of the contemporary stairs into the overall house design.
Signature Stairs divide our central spine stairs into two main categories, ‘box support’ as illustrated above and ‘fin-plate support’. Both modern staircase options share the elegant design which appears to float from ground floor to first but differ in how steps are supported. In the box support design the step is supported by a square upright which is slightly thinner than the central spine and the metal thread plate is fully encased in timber cladding.
The glider box support is suitable to fit any of the Signature Stairs range of balustrades, typically, as in the picture above it is finished with with our frameless glass balustrade to accentuate the openness of the design. Our Glider Fin-plate modern stairs is more suited to ‘top fixed’ balustrades from our stainless and stainless & glass options.
In this project the client has beautifully incorporated the glider contemporary staircase with their home design. By painting the stairs in similar tones to that used on the wall your attention is drawn to the walnut finished steps and how they appear to float to the upper level. The stainless steel & glass infill ‘Elegant’ balustrade is the perfect complimenting finish to this modern staircase design.
This project was a one-off, custom commission contemporary staircase design which highlights the fabrication abilities of Signature Stairs and our attention to finishing details which sets us apart from others. The circular central spine with the laser cut stainless balustrades introduces an ultra modern element into what was a traditional old style dwelling. The contrast between the modern stairs and the home design gives the end result of a spectacular feature in the hallway.
The client in this project chose a nautical theme wire-rope finished balustrade which created a stunning visual effect. There are restrictions and building regulations in relation to horizontal running balustrades. As a company we are happy to advise clients on regulations but equally happy to manufacture to client specifications - with the understanding that the client will sign off on all non-complying design elements.
The ‘Glider’ contemporary staircase range is Signature’s central spine support stairs and offers clients an opportunity to introduce a beautifully finished, modern staircase style and architectural element to the design of their home.
The Glider modern staircase range can be split into two broad categories or styles – the ‘Box Support’ or ‘Fin-plate Support options. A quick run through the image gallery and you will see how they differ, but essentially they both share a central spine and differ in how they connect the step to the main structure. Each contemporary stairs style is compliant with building regulations, but as with all Signature Stairs, gives that solid feeling when walking on.
With the ‘Box Support’ option individual steps are supported from the central spine by a single upright to the underside of the step. The Glider contemporary staircases are then fully encased in timber. The mild steel structure has been filled, sanded and primed ready to take the final colour by the client ensuring the stairs can be incorporated fully into the overall design of the home. Typically the Box Support option is finished with our frameless glass balustrade.
The Fin-plate Support option is a bolder more modern staircase style as more of the stairs structure is exposed with just the top of the step being clad with solid timber. The exposed structure is filled, sanded and primed and can be finished with any commercial paint to blend in with the colours used in the home. Typically this option is finished with our ‘Elegant’ balustrade which can have either a stainless handrail or matching timber finish.
