Here at Signature Stairs we’re regularly approached by clients who have a very specific set of needs for their project. And one of the most challenging elements that we have become adept at over-coming is how to make a telling statement within a home by using our custom designed stairs no matter the environment.
In fact, the more complex, the bigger the sense of satisfaction from our side as having the ability to transform any interior space through the installation of our expertly crafted stairs is something that we are deeply passionate about.
Even a straightforward design can achieve monumental differences when executed with the right staircase solution by incorporating strong awareness of interior’s space, the requirements of the project from a structural sense and of course using natural light in the correct way.
As an example, this particular case study is useful to review as this client really wanted to achieve the element of big impact as you entered the main living space which was on first floor level, all within a fairly restricted environment.
Our team of design experts worked closely on the wants and needs of the client with the end result being a perfect solution all the way from initial surveying, structural design requirements, fabrication of the stairs, right through to the installation.
This custom created stairs design is based on our cantilever range and features 14 steps with 15 rises and cleverly has the structural support screened and hidden behind the plaster of the walls which has in turn managed to implement an open and very elegant floating step style to the stairs.
The channelling of natural light from above has been achieved through the utilisation of our open rise steps combining with our glass balustrade to project depth and space to the eye where there is in fact limited space. Obviously safety is paramount in all of our creations and in this project we maximised the going and reduced the rise which is an element that should always be incorporated into any stairs design & installation.
Specific to this project is the enhancement of natural light to an even greater level by installing a glass floor at the return landing which manages to bring forth the natural light source from the window. Implementing a solid landing at this point of the design would have the impact of shortening the space available whereas the glass floor we used actually creates an illusion of depth.
