Signature Stairs is delighted to have played their part in the ‘Evening Standard – New Homes Award’ winning development (project title: Artisan) on the corner of Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road in the heart of Fitzrovia.
We are proud to have been able to showcase our expertise and highly skilled craftsmanship within such a prestigious project and to have had our architectural stairs receive such recognition. Additionally, the fact that the project itself was the conversion of historic terrace houses adds even further to the accolade.
Artisan – The Project
The area of Fitzrovia in London’s West End is well known as being historically bohemian having literary giants such as Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw as former residents while from an architectural standpoint, the district has a combination of residential and business properties along with retail developments.
The project named ‘Artisan’ is one of central London’s most challenging and ambitious property conversions and has been awarded top prize at the 2016 London Evening Standard New Homes Awards.
A total of 13 apartments and penthouses were created on the top floors of five historic terrace houses and we were pleased when the judges reported that the stand-out feature was our “curving oak and glass staircase in the show apartments”.

Not only was the project itself prestigious but we were delighted to work with the award-winning developers, Dukelease Ltd. of Bond Street, London and award-winning architect, Rolfe Judd of Architecture Planning Interiors of Claylands Road, London who received the award for ‘Best Conversion’ and also took home the much coveted Grand Prix Award for the development.
We were also delighted to work closely with the contracting firm of Ernest Park who are based out of Aldgate, London.
Our Award-winning Stair Structures
Signature Stairs supplied three architectural stairs to this project including the stunning curved glass and oak stairs described as the ‘stand out feature’ of the show apartment.
This beautifully crafted curved steel structure stairs finished with low iron clear glass balustrades, floating timber handrails and stained oak steps has regal elegance and is a spectacular feature in this property.

Turret – Seamlessly incorporated into the apartment design the exquisite curves of the exposed inside stringer, open steps, and floating handrail give this stairs an art like quality which ensures it is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.
